Frequently Asked Questions
The right water filter system depends on where you live, your water source, the water quality, the age of your home, household requirements and the substances you want to remove. AquaGuard will help you select a system for town water, rainwater, tank water or other water sources. Please call us today.
Benchtop systems connect to the outlet of your kitchen tap and are a convenient option for rental premises or traveling . Under sink systems are installed below the kitchen bench and supply filtered water through the existing mixer tap or if you desire a separate drinking-water tap, depending on your preference. Whole house systems filter the water before it is distributed throughout the home.
Yes. Town water and rainwater present different filtration challenges. Town water filtration commonly focuses on substances such as chlorine, chemicals, heavy metals, tastes, odours and other contaminants. Rainwater filtration needs to address sediment and microorganisms, chemical drift, even tank type and colour. The correct system should be selected according to the water source and quality.
This depends on the filtration system and cartridges selected and there are numerous sold online that remove very little. AquaGuard offers options designed to reduce or remove a range of substances including sediment, chlorine, unpleasant tastes and odours, fluoride, heavy metals, bacteria, microorganisms, PFAS and other contaminants. Not every cartridge removes every substance, so it is important to seek qualified advice and choose the correct filter combination.
Some AquaGuard filtration systems and specialty cartridges are designed to remove or reduce fluoride. Standard carbon filters do not generally remove fluoride, so a system specifically configured for fluoride / fluorinated compound removal is required.
Specific AquaGuard filtration systems are designed to reduce PFAS, primarily our carbon fibre cartridges.
Specific AquaGuard filtration systems are designed to reduce certain heavy metals. Heavy metal removal is often claimed by water filter companies however, in reality only the larger atom of lead has been removed by micron size. Our CF3 cartridge filter is the only catalytic carbon (carbon fibre) filter on the market wholly dedicated to the removal of heavy metals.
A sediment filter can capture suspended particles such as dirt, rust, sand, silt, even bacteria if the micron rating is correct. Carbon filters are used to remove chlorine, taste, odour and chemicals. Twin and triple systems can combine different cartridge types to address multiple water quality concerns.
Carbon fibre water filtration uses a high-performance carbon-based media designed to provide superior contaminant removal while maintaining a strong water flow. 100% of the carbon is available to function as carbon is supposed to function, meaning that 100% of the pore space between the carbon particles is available to hold physical contaminants. AquaGuard carbon fibre cartridges are configured for different applications and water quality requirements.Read More ►
The accepted international protocol for cartridge replacement is every 12 months. Any change in taste or odour, or a noticeable reduction in water flow also indicates that a cartridge needs replacing.
Some benchtop and Ezy Fit systems are designed for straightforward installation. Under sink and whole house systems on municipal water legally require installation by a licenced plumber. Installation requirements will be outlined in the relevant product information.
A correctly configured water filter system will provide an appropriate flow rate for its intended application, 7.8lpm for an under sink system and 40lpm for a Whole House system. Water pressure may decrease over time if a cartridge becomes clogged, or is overdue for replacement.

One size or type of system won’t suit every situation and that’s before you begin to choose which cartridges would be best. Contact the AquaGuard team and tell us about your water source, location, household needs and the contaminants you are concerned about. We can help you identify the best filtration solution for your home or business.
